Ford is offering "badges" on Facebook. Mostly, they're pretty lame but this is probably the best of the bunch.

The pending FTE Florida Chapter badge that's on the table is way cooler than anything that Ford put up on Facebook.

I don't think that they're giving you the run around. Ford is a multi-billion dollar multi-national corporation with a staff of highly paid lawyers (and probably some lesser paid ones, too). From Ford's perspective, that team has a LOT of work, handing Ford's liability issues, respond to suit, quantifying legal requirements, keeping up with all manor of law in every jurisdiction where Ford Motor Company has a presence, etc.

From their viewpoint, the handling of "some guy off the street" that wants to use a Ford logo in a way that doesn't make any money for anyone is pretty far down their priority list. The cost of the lawyer just to review it is likely more than the total moneys exchanged from the sales of the FTE/Florida badge.

I've fought similar battles with obsolete software that runs only on hardware that's been out of manufacture for 20+ years. But someone owns the rights to it and that means that money will be spent on lawyers to get it sorted out.

Lawyers run the world. I guess that Armageddon has arrived, but since the lawyers control the paperwork no one has noticed yet.

I've exchanged several emails with a rep from ford and I've posted some of the emails on the thread I posted on our Florida chapter regarding the topic. Ford has a section on their official site for enthusiasts who wanna use the logo for their groups and similar requests. The application process is simple and they responded fairly fast on my initial request altho it appears that the email went to several people ending on a rep Named John. At his request I resent him the sample and still waiting for a reply. Im not really in much of a hurry as our chapter leader and I are still gathering new Ideas for a new badge if this doesn't fall thru. Our Chapter is under going a jump start and we could use some new excitement. Lots of members just not alot of involvement. I think a new badge will bring a little pride to the chapter. I'll even give them out free as decals to new members who reach signiture status. Older members with over 100 posts will get them too. Just a little insentive to boost things up a bit.

I was hoping ford would let me design a new emblem.. Then again that's just daydreaming...lol.

One of the things that the lawyers have to do is consult with the R&D, marketing, and other Ford teams. If your logo plays on a publicly used image and doesn't detract from the Ford image, all is good. But if something in your added graphics resembles something that Ford has already developed and is considering using publicly, there's a conflict and Ford cannot endorse your usage.
