I'm having issues with my '01 Ranger Edge (4x4 4.0L V6). Anytime I go between 30 and 40 mph and above 60 mph, the front end makes a really loud humming noise and starts to vibrate. Above 60 mph, the noise is so loud that it's hard to have a conversation with anyone. It seems as if the vibration is worse on the passenger side.
I've done the following to try and correct the problem:
I replaced the upper control arm/ball joint on both tires (the passenger side was definitely in worse shape),
I got the tires balanced and aligned
I just replaced the tires
I thought that replacing the tires would do it, but it's having the same problem. Since I replaced the upper control arm, there's no play in the tires so I don't think the bearings are bad, but I have no idea.
What size tires do you have? What Brand? Oftentimes with larger tires, even the brand new ones will shake pretty good. You should take them back where you got them and have them "road-force" balance them. This is essentially spinning the tire on the rim to find the best spot for it and it should help some. Tell them to put the tires with the worst wobble on the back. Good luck.
