The colors swap at the plug, but they function correctly.

This has been pointed out in numerous threads.

1U2Z-12A199-AA .. Ignition Module - blue (Motorcraft DY-893) / Available from Ford / See post #13 for further info.

MSRP: $120.84 // FTE sponsor tousleyfordparts.com price: $73.11.

Some modules are mounted up against the right fender inner apron across from the red hot exhaust manifold. Engine heat is the mortal enemy of these modules.

When replacing use some washers to space it further away from the apron. The more airflow around the little charmer, the better.

Pointed out probably by me.

I mention it every time one of these threads about the DSII get posted.

Unrelated to the topic but, I've been noticing the new Ford/Motorcraft logo more lately, and not just on the modules. The newest FL-1A oil filter has the new logo on it as well, etc...

New Ford/Motorcraft logo? I've didn't know there was a new logo. What is different about it?

It's been around for a few years now and is branded on the newest parts they sell. My new module has the new logo on it. Can be seen in my first post in this thread. My newest FL-1A also has the new logo on it.

From my experience of ford parts boxes...

Motorcraft Logos...
Here is the latest current logo... Been around since Circa 2006.

Then the one before that... The FOMOCO lettering could be anywhere on the box and did not have to be right next to the Motorcraft letters.

Then the one before that... Was used with a red box or with the GT-40 image underneath. The Ford oval was grayscale on all of the parts boxes I have.

The first Motorcraft logo, without the Ford oval. Identical to the Autolite Logo. Autolite was replaced by motorcraft in 1972. Has the GT-40 image underneath. Was in use when our trucks were built.

Good to know the different logos when buying parts new or NOS, as it can help to narrow down the era in which the parts were made. IE: Mexico/China or Made in the USA. The older the logo on the parts box, the more likely it's Made In USA. Ford updated part numbers all the time, but sometimes they didn't. The FL-1A oil filter is an example. D9AZ-6731-A that hasn't been updated since 1979*. I can tell the era of FL-1A you got on your engine by the motorcraft logo.

*The FL-1A replaced the FL-1.

Just to show you the logos in the real world... Dates are tentative and from memory...

1979-1986 FL-1A

1987-1995 FL-1A

1996-Circa 2006 FL-1A

Circa 2006-Present. FL-1A

Thank you for those illustrated examples, 81-F-150-Explorer.

Pictures always help! I am glad to see that the Ford Motorcraft logo still looks good. In fact, I may even like the newest one the best because of the colors and the "Ford" oval included. I was afraid that they were trying too hard to modernize it, making it unrecognizable in the process. Like what they did with the new "Holiday Inn" logo and the new "YMCA" logo.

Kind of off topic... The Hecho en Mexico stuff is sometimes better than Hecho en USA... The USRA rules used to specify that we cannot use any chevy 350 heads from a Mexican motor. The flow is so much better in those than the ones used here they give a distinct advantage. I think they removed the rule a couple of years ago. Just some food for thought.

Will all the crap made in China these days, I'd eagerly accept something "Hecho en Mexico"...

My 92 Fender Standard Telecaster was "Hecho en Mexico" and I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread...

Auto-Lite filters were red w/a white label thru 1964. 1965: FoMoCo introduced the "Quality Twins."

Both the new oil cans (C5AZ-19579- then with apropos suffixes) and the filters were gold thru (I think, but don't recall exactly) 1978.

No such thing as Motorcraft until 1973.

"Spin-On" FL-1 oil filter introduced in 1957: B7A-6731-A / Replaced in 1961 by C1AZ-6731-A / Replaced in 1979 by D9AZ-6731-A ~ This part number...believe it or not...is still valid.

1979: FL-1 replaced by FL-1A

GT-40 marked packaging introduced in 1969. Previous packaging (circa 1961/68) had blue stripes. Previous to that, red stripes and red FoMoCo logos.

Be careful: Some aftermarket aka 'gypo' parts come in packaging that mimics Ford packaging, and has since the 1950's. This also includes a stylized "GT-40."

Ford sued, forced the peeps using this packaging to remove the Ford/FoMoCo/Auto-Lite/Motorcraft logos, but you still could be fooled...if you don't pay attention.

This gypo packaging (with gypo parts inside) shows up at swap meets all the time, so take a good look-see before you buy.

Duraspark Motocraft Ignition Module with an Infurno Kit?

I have a 1981 Ford F-100 with a 302 engine in it. Duraspark Ignition Module D8VE-12A199-A2C. Can I hook up Something simular to the Duraspark II INFURNO 2 COIL KIT. So that I can set my spark plug gap up to .60 for a hotter bigger spark for better MPG and more power? I find reference to it on later models but nothing as old as mine. It sure would be a gift if I could just invest $90 or so and get better fuel economy and better performance! Anyone know?

Is there a way to check and see if it actually has the feature?

I have a no-name Autozone module, because my 28 year old module failed. It seems fine but I never got to use the original module so I have nothing to compare it to.

O-Reilly's site shows they can get Master Pro, BWD, BWD Select, Motorcraft, and AC Delco modules. Napa stocks their own "Mileage Plus" and "Echlin" modules. Do you think that the Motorcraft module is actually fully functional or is it just China crap now?

Very good info! While cleaning out the cab of My '80 F150, I found the original module. I'm going to have it tested, and hopefully have a good spare on hand
