Question NP 271f Transfer Case Capacities

Does anyone know what the fluid capacity is for this transfer case. I need to do a fluid change. Its been 120K. Been procastinating as my train horns are mounted to the skid plate of the T-Case. But I think its time. I need to know capacity and what type of oil weight and are we using any friction modifiers? Thanks. Did alot of google searching and cant find anything.

Mercon/Dextron III, or a synthetic ATF with the same specs. Video, view single post.

I recommend you buy 3 quarts, because many of us have found it takes a little more than 2. If you don't need it you can always return it for a refund.

I used Mobil 1 synthetic ATF, and it has been fine. Hopefully the small extra cost is a little insurance against heat.

From: Fort. Lauderdale FL,
What do you think of using Trynsynd ATF(Castrol Fully Synthetic for Allison Trans) I work for Detroit Diesel / Allsion and get cost. I can get a gallon for like $14. Its a full Syn ATF that we use for the trans we put in some of the tanks for our govt orders and belive it or not those trans run around $90K for a small transport tank. Think it would be a problem? I dont think it would but like hearing opinions. Maybe something I didnt think of. Thanks
