Cripe, even when new.... How many degrees is NORMAL?
Thats great Ctubutis! I have often wondered what part of NORMAL is really normal operating temps.
I did read a thread somehwere either on here or on fullsize bronco where the sending units can be cleaned up(the circuit boards or other electrical contacts) and they go back to performing correctly. It doesnt cost anything besides a little labor. Compare that to the $250-$300 a new costs and thats a great bargain.
Back to the t stat discussion. Like Gary said the fan doesnt do anything for cooling until the coolant is actually flowing through the engine. You can tell by how hot the air is coming from the fan when the t stat opens. If you have spent enough time under the hood with the engine running you can feel the temp difference in the air moving. When it gets really hot thats the result of the t stat opening and letting the hot water out of the block to flow into the radiator.
Cool. Thanks for the sender link. I had no idea what it would look like in there. I figured the float was falling apart or leaking or something. Hopefully it just needs an electronic cleaning.
