Looking to possibly get a DP Tuner here soon, first real mod I'll have made to my truck. I figure I'll get the 80hp Econo tune, which would be the one it stays in most of the time, unless I'm towing. Have you guys noticed an increase in the mileage with this, along with power? Or is it just the most fuel efficient way to add horsepower?
Also for the performance tune, is there any benefit to the 100hp over the 120hp? Don't want to strain the motor too much if the 120 is stretching it on a stock setup.
I have seen increases in economy over stock. Depending on your right foot, because the DP will completely change your truck. I have the 120 and 140 tune. On the dyno they are only 9 HP different at the rear wheels, but you can tell when your in the 140 tune. More fuel, timing, inj psi, trans response, whatever they change. I would advise an egt gauge, need to keep an eye on those when pulling or playing.
Second what Tyler said. I love mine, my only wish is that Jody would make his way to the west coast so I could get it live tuned again AHEM..... And you definitely want a pyro!! I gross 30,000lbs hauling cars, and even in 60tow I can get hot QUICK.
Yes you want EGT gauge. I have the 100 and 80e and you can't tell the difference between them. Go for the 1200hp. That said I drive in the 60e most of the time. I live in the city and it ain't as touchy. 80e on the freeway is alsome and I use that on all long trips that I don't tow with. The thing is extra hp and know mpg lost as long as your not hot roding around, on and off the gas like crazy.
Chet
Gauge up! I have pyro, transmission temp, and turbo boost. The pyro is absolute minimum, with the TT close behind on the priority list. The turbo boost will let me know if air/exhaust is leaking somewhere. Jody really knows how to get that motor to draw air, so your intake might not be up to the task if you try to get big HP gains. I'd also steer cleer of the triple-digit tunes until you get other mods to make room for the big monster to play.
My list: No-Start, Warm-up, Stock, 60e Mountain, Decel, 80T, and Coffee Window (quiet tune). I'm getting ready to get a 40T to tow a heavier load.
I went F6 because I knew I was going to change things and I didn't want to uninstall/reinstall or lose the chip for days while waiting for updates/upgrades. That extra money has paid for itself time and again already and I can never go back to stock now.
Don't expect a bump in MPG, but you CAN expect a whole different truck with the same MPG if you go with one of the economy tunes.
How much weight do you tow? Do you drive on hills or mountains?
Slightly off topic - if you pick a no-start tune, how does this prevent vehicle theft? Doesn't the thief simply turn the **** or dial to a different tune, and start the truck? (I realize this assumes the thief isn't an idiot and understands the concept..)

Thanks!
There is a specific sequence of + and - button pushng to get it out of no start. A thief would have to know the sequence.
I know that Jody is not too happy about people putting his tuner in a truck that doesn't have a Pyro gauge. Not that he doesn't trust his tunes / product...but if THE DRIVER gets the temps up too high for too long and damages the truck, then the driver is going to get on these boards and say "Hey, DP Tuner blew up my truck!" When in fact, it was his fault, not Jody's.
If you're going to start screwing around with any sort of tuner / chip...you HAVE TO HAVE gauges, from a practical standpoint. You wouldn't put a 600 hp racing engine in a '65 Mustang that you haven't upgraded the suspension and brakes on...don't be changing fuel delivery, etc. without knowing how it's affecting the engine and transmission. Both would be recipes for disaster.
Guess I should have mentioned that the EGT gauge is the first priority, put one on my old Cummins and now I feel unsafe without one. OK. I just thought it was worth mentioning in case you hadn't factored that in.
I gross between 18-20k lbs, depending on if the popup is behind the gooseneck or not, pulling mostly through hills around here. You likely already know this, but the lower HP towing tunes work better with the heavy hauling. I have big honkin' mountains to drive and the 60e Mountain tune works better for my daily driving.
Also, I was under the impression that the AIS intake was an upgrade over factory, will it not support the higher power tunes? "Duh" on my part I forgot to check your signature line - sorry.

I'm a 6637 guy, but my understanding is the AIS flows very well and has excellent filtration, so you'll be fine.
As for Tow tunes, I have 60hp and 40hp, and dancing between those and OD/top keeps the EGTs down and the power up. But once in a while I wish I had a 20hp. The Decel tune is an effective exhaust brake, so it's a no brainer in my book.
Tuning is not just about the HP. Offroad I like the stock tune since the go pedal is not sensitive to my foot bouncing around, yet when I need power it is a click away. Stock is also quieter for sneaking home way too late. FYI the drive thru tune gives you a quiet idle only, not a driving tune. A big part of tuning for us AT guys is transmission behavior, but that's moot with the 6 speed.
In daily driver duties I run in 80E mostly, with stock and 120R when needed. I used hi idle perhaps only 3 times, but I was very glad to have it each time. If you get the F5 load it with every tune you might need, but if you spring for the F6 you can mix and match later. My dos centavos.
The AIS flows just fine for the most tunes you will get for your truck. There is a fender sleeve mod that you can perform to get a little more airflow and also to keep the air minder from tripping but that's about it. I love mine.
