Sticker

Reading 2horses thread and waiting for build..... wasting time... made me think..

2 years ago, driving on country road, county patrol pulled me over and ticketed me for lack of safety sticker. In Il. you have to get inspected every 6 months
(cheap, liked $25). I claimed ignorance, never had one,, but no go. Had to pay fine. I knew I should have had one. Did not for get one in 12 years, including owning a DRW. All personal trucks.

I just tow the occasional travel trailer and recreational stuff. I get the requirement for folks who tow for a living, but think this is just a money maker for the state for personal towing.

This is Illinois. Do you all have the sticker requirement in your state? How much for you?

New truck is to be built next Thursday, bare with me.....trying to bide time..but would like to learn your experiences....

Ha ha, would you expect to not have an extra fee or tax collected in Illinois? They need to change the plate motto from Land of Lincoln to Land of Taxes. I know darn well because I am originally from Illinois. I left just as soon as I was legally able, I recommend that course for everyone.

I am surprised the inspections are that cheap for twice a year there, I would expect$50-$100+. Texas has yearly safety inspections. Thanks to BS political inspired EPA regulations we now pay about $50 for a safety inspection for a gasser but since the diesels are exempt from the EPA garbage, their inspection is about $12.

Texas resident (in the military) and living in Ohio. I have SRW, but Texas is not a nanny state and therefore doesn't give a damn about DRW or F-450. My registration is around 90 bucks a year.

In Texas....these trucks are common place. I think they even mandated parking spots be bigger in some parts of the state to accommodate the pickups.

Gotta live where the job is. That is something that many in this country forget or refuse to understand.

Soon enough, you will be able to leave. If you are lucky, Texas will steal your company anyway like they are doing with CAT . I may be able to practice engineering in Texas if enough manufacturing moves there!

Fact where the job is. I take a lot of grief for living in the "Peoples republic of Illinois" with multiple governors in prison and stupid gun laws. But that is where my career is for now.

Illinois law is anything over gross weight of 8k lbs (2nd division truck) or any 2nd division truck pulling a trailer over 8k lbs has to have a safety sticker/inspection. The law is hugely vague and isn't enforced down here much.

You are correct. He quoted the over the 8k thing. I get that but I think for the average Joe (me) driving the 350 it is BS. There is really no public safety issue with the causal driver.

But the law is what it is int this state.

Original Q? Are all states like that?

I should clarify, In Il registration for 350 is around 170 per year + safety sticker every 6 months...the sticker is my issue.......

Right, after many years and many trucks we happened to be by the county office on a Sunday morning, the officer came along side an pulled us over. I technically knew the law but tried to negotiate with him. No luck. Revenue hungry I guess...

Actually my sticker expires at the end of December and the new truck is supposed to be here jan 9th. I'm going to take the risk and not renew it.

I beleive in Louisiana we have probably the cheapest registration fee of about state in the union, about $40.00 for my F250 and a yearly BRAKE TAG for $10.00, I'm glad to be a resident of the great State of Louisiana, but still proud to be born & raised in Goree Texas!!

I'm FROM Southern Il we left when I was 14, but Dad and lots of family live there. Can't figure out why. Obama and EPA is causing a lot of the coal mines to shut down, taxes are outrageous, and the stupid freaking gun law. Crooked Chicago politicians and Mafia run the state.

MS does not have anything, TX just has the "safety" inspection like before but it's cheap and once a year, GA my home for 23 years only has emission checks near metro ATL, I live in the next county over from that requirement. It's only $25 for a year, it used to be for 2 years but they needed more money and changed it.
