No safety sticker here in Ohio, don't know how much to register since truck is new but it will be more than my 05 250. And insurance is astronomical compared to our 07 Mustang GT.
No sticker in MN either. We do have to have it DOT'd once a year if you use it for making money. I also have to do daily vehicle inspections and keep a log book if I go over state lines. In MN if it's a one ton you can get commercial plates that cost $99 a year for tabs. The odd thing is you can get the plates even if you don't use it for commercial purposes. I use to do this before I started using my truck for work. If a person would get the normal plates in MN the tab fee every year is based on the vehicle's value. It would be $600-800 bucks a year.
I'm FROM Southern Il we left when I was 14, but Dad and lots of family live there. Can't figure out why. Obama and EPA is causing a lot of the coal mines to shut down, taxes are outrageous, and the stupid freaking gun law. Crooked Chicago politicians and Mafia run the state.
MS does not have anything, TX just has the "safety" inspection like before but it's cheap and once a year, GA my home for 23 years only has emission checks near metro ATL, I live in the next county over from that requirement. It's only $25 for a year, it used to be for 2 years but they needed more money and changed it.
I don't think there is such a law here in California. Like we need more of them but I do understand that you need some type of endorsment if you pull a 3 axle trailer of any type. DMV fees are a big joke, mine went down this year to $895.
VA:
Safety inspections for all vehicles (annual) = $16 / $12 for motorcycles
Emissions inspection (Northern VA counties only) = $28 (every 2 years)
Registration fee is dependent on your GVWR. I think over 10,000 lbs require Truck plates for around $80 a year.
To answer the original question, not every state has such laws. In Ohio and Wisconsin there are no such vehicle checks required. Up north near Cleveland the county requires yearly emissions inspections though.
And seriously guys, take the politics elsewhere. Everyone here should know that political discussion is only permitted in Club FTE.
I am surprised the inspections are that cheap for twice a year there, I would expect$50-$100+. Texas has yearly safety inspections. Thanks to BS political inspired EPA regulations we now pay about $50 for a safety inspection for a gasser but since the diesels are exempt from the EPA garbage, their inspection is about $12.
Yea Texas inspection pretty much sucks...out here in the sticks inspection only runs $14 (got it last week) because we only need the safety inspection....no emissions requirement like in the big city thank god
Reading 2horses thread and waiting for build..... wasting time... made me think..
2 years ago, driving on country road, county patrol pulled me over and ticketed me for lack of safety sticker. In Il. you have to get inspected every 6 months
(cheap, liked $25). I claimed ignorance, never had one,, but no go. Had to pay fine. I knew I should have had one. Did not for get one in 12 years, including owning a DRW. All personal trucks.
I just tow the occasional travel trailer and recreational stuff. I get the requirement for folks who tow for a living, but think this is just a money maker for the state for personal towing.
This is Illinois. Do you all have the sticker requirement in your state? How much for you?
New truck is to be built next Thursday, bare with me.....trying to bide time..but would like to learn your experiences....
One would think that if you have an F350, which I do, and the state requires safety for over 8,000 lbs, they wouldn't let you register the truck unless you purchased commercial "D" plates - that would be common sense.
Of course no one understands how this liberal mafia excess spend over-regulation anti-gun Chicago controlled state can actually continue to exist...I'm ready to get out...but there is that job thing.
I have seen a couple of folks with 350 that did not have D plates in Il. They are taking a big risk, I agree you think they would catch that at registration time. When you buy a truck here the dealer takes it to get the first safety sticker. The inspections are a joke. Some places do more but many check lights and turn signals and call it a day.
Seems like general consensus is state requirements for safety inspection/stickers and registration fees are all over the board.
Here in NJ, the corupt state, ALL vehicles (Except trucks over 26,000 gvwr or something)get an inspection sticker by the dealer that is good for 6 years. After that, I think it is every 4 years and you go to a state inspection station and get it for free. If they find a defect, you have to fix it and return for reinspection. They test brakes, lights, steering, and emmissions.
On another note, as far as registration goes, I can register to me personnally or commercially. When it comes to insurance, alot of companies wont insure a truck like that as a personal vehicle. They think you are going to use it for work. So I got tired of all that run around and I register, plate and insure as a commercial truck. Now comes the sticky part. DOT rules are that any commercial vehicle that weights more than 10k# and is 130 miles from home base is required to have a DOT # on the truck and is subject to all rules and regs such as log book, CDL, medical card etc... This means when I tow my boat to CT, a local cop can stop me and write me up for DOT violations. Doesnt happen often, but I have had my F450 ticked twice.
No inspection or extra fee here in MI, at least not for personal trucks. Only license plate fees, $130 for a 250, but then again my Pacifica is $105. It all comes off what the car or truck was worth brand new, no matter how old.
Just got my registration info to renew. Last year with my 250 plates were $67.84. This year my 350 will cost $104.84. I put an average of 5000 miles a year on my trucks, which matters not. Oh well, boys and their toys, right?
