In the past all of my F150s were XLTs (85,91,97,06).Plus I've had Ranger and Bronco XLT's. I've never been into too many fancy gizmos and gadgets. IMO they are just more stuff to go wrong a few years down the road. The reason I chose an FX4 this time around is because if I went with an XLT it was going to cost me about $1k to get Harley head and tail lights and get my bumpers painted. I went that route with my 06 XLT. By the time I spent $1k on those mods on the XLT it would have cost almost the same as my stripped down FX4. So this time around I ordered a stripped down FX4. One reason I liked XLTs in the past was because of the manual transfer cases. Now the only way to get a manual TC in an F150 is in a XL with the 3.7 V6. So whether I got an XLT or a FX4 this time around I couldn't get a manual transfer case.
GuyGene - You are correct. I traded my '04 Supercrew this past summer for a new Lariat Supercrew, and now I'm trading the Lariat for a new XLT Supercrew. Just didn't like all those bells and whistles, and they made me such a good deal that I couldn't pass it up. I'll post pictures once I pick the new truck up tomorrow.
Coastie, look forward to the photos. And, since I am in Augusta, I think I'll just follow your steps to the dealer you use there

Nassty, is a transfer case the same as a transmission? Man, I am getting old... Don't understand all this new-fangled talk.
I'm not seeing any application in the 2012 build site where a manual transfer case is still available. I plugged the 3.7L and 5.0L into a 4x4 STX and XL with and without the convenience package and the electronic shift on the fly still comes up as included equipment and the site will not allow me to de-select it.
Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?
The cool thing in the past was a fella could get an STX truck with the manual T-case and it still looks as cool as an FX4 but with a lower cost and less equipment.

actually the transfer case is a second transmission bolted to the first transmission tha sends power to front and rear differentials and also has a low range in most cases that could be operated by a shifter on the floor or a rotary **** on dash.
GuyGene - the dealer I'm buying this one from is J.C. Lewis Ford in Savannah. They treated me very well and didn't put any pressure on me at all. It was one of the best buying experiences I've ever had. I know their service dept is good too because I had my '04 worked on over there.
Stay away from O.C. Welch Ford in Beaufort. I bought the Lariat there and their service was terrible. I complained about it to Ford.
