Sherriff's deputy stopped me when I was leaving work yesterday. When he first approached the window, he asked the standard, "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I said, "Yes sir, I do." Before I could tell him that I knew I was speeding, he quipped, "To check out your truck, right?"
Caught me totally off guard, I laughed and stammered, "Uh, no.... I thought it was because I was doing 65 in a 55. But you can check out the truck instead if you want!"
Turns out he really was interested in it (in spite of my speeding), and we chatted about it for a few minutes after he brought my DL and insurance back. Commented on how quiet it was, asked about power and towing, but was mostly impressed with the fuel mileage - which he assured me was much better than what he got in his '98.
Must have liked the truck a lot - no ticket was issued. Just a warning......

It is always a good day when you avoid that speeding tax! I was stopped once many years ago late at night headed down into the RGV. Sheriff Deputy was real interested in buying a firearm (from the store not mine) I had in the vehicle. Shots were fired, nobody hurt, no citations, and we both went on our way.
