240ci vs 300ci

I have a 1971 F100 custom. By the VIN it is supposed to have a 240 but the guy I purchased it from said it now has a 300. How can I tell the difference? The air cleaner has the opening for a preheater hose but there is no opening in the manifold. Looks like the wrong air cleaner for the installed engine? I'm not a mechanic but I like to play mechanic. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Only way to tell the difference is to measure the stroke of the engine. Remove a spark plug and use a piece of wire and turn the engine over by hand. Report your findings back.
