My 97 5.4 l has developed spyder like cracks in the head that allow coolant to seep into the sparkplug wells and cause a short.
My local dealer wants to replace the motor due to the 170,000 miles I have put on it. They are offering a remanufactured motor by Ford with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, and a competitor is offering a remanufactured moto by Jasper with a 3 year 75,000
mile warranty. The cost is within a couple of hundred bucks of each other. My question is ; Are the Jasper motors better than Fords or what.
Any comment would be appreciated
Jasper is essentially a mass-rebuilding facility for stock type motors. The motors that Jasper rebuilds are to Ford factory specs, so I would say they're no better or no worse than any stock type motor Ford could provide.
On the main message board, go to 'Ford versus the competition' and open up the 'congratulations to GM' thread. There is some info about Jasper motors in there!
I'm sure the ford isn't better or worse than the Jasper, but go for the Jasper!
If nothing else than the 75k warranty. Its possible to run out of miles before time on many warranties now a days and Jasper does an excellent job of rebuilding and standing behind what they build. I've never had a bad overall experience with them.
Good choice, Most of them are built right here in Louisville, Ky. by a company called Hesco. This is a Ford owned supplier. I have several friends that work there. I have used a 5.0 from there for my dads 89 F150. Never had a minutes problem from it.
