1989 ford bronco xlt 5.0 5 speed (was an aod but i switched it) 1356 trasfercase with lever.
recently my speedometer cable got wrapped around my front driveshaft when it let loose and both needle bearing cups shattered. i replaced both u joints and inspected the straightness of the shaft and all checks out. it squeaks like none other. i can only pinpoint it to be the front somewhere. with the truck not running or moving if you grab the front bumper and move up or down with it you can hear the squeak in the front somewhere.
it is definitely A driveshaft or axle shaft as it only make the noise while the hubs are locked in and or in regular 4X4 or 4 low
also, new speedometer cable and sensor and gear and my speedometer needle is bouncing while i drive.
There are alot of bushing that could be squeaking under the front.
As for the t-case squeak and needle bounce. Sounds like you prolly broke a tooth on the gear inside the transfer case that spins the cable. Shouldn't be too hard of a fix. Also inspect the speedo cable itself, it may need replacing.
the speedometer cable is brand new as well as the sensor and the yellow gear inside the transfercase. the cable is dorman brand and the other 2 pieces i got from ford.
Sounds like there is a tight bend in the cable routing somewhere.
from the original routing path all i changed was put it on top of the frame rail and zip tie it to 2 holes. still retains the same path, just out of the way of the fuel lines.
not exactly cut to fit as it comes pre assembled otherwise i could have tried to make it a straight shot.
