Well I picked up a 1985 Ford E350 full panel extended 6.9L Diesel van, 600$ drove it home 2 hours!
I checked everything out, and so far, only thing it needs is a good interior cleaning, (can't stand dirty interiors), patch a few holes in the back, a park brake cable, front tires, and shes good to go! A good oil change and tranny flush is do also.
It's a very very original basic work van, AM only radio with 1 dash speaker.
Heres some pics
Gotta show off the super high tech radio and heater controls
Sorry, no disrespect & best of luck w/6.9 diesel. But got to ask. Is that "a very very original" tail pipe?
FORD has certainly put some skinny tail pipes out. But don't recall seeing a V8 diesel w/such a seemingly small exhaust. Not up on diesels, but have '85 Econoline sales lit to refer to. Though no motor ID, a larger diameter, beveled end tail pipe is also shown.
Was the fatter pipe on 7.5L V8 only?
When I got my '85 Club Wagon it had a muffler shop chain exhaust system on it. The pipe was smaller diameter than FORD's & muffler about 2/3 the size of OEM.
All these diesels 1983-1994 non turbo models in truck or vans all had the factory 2.25" exhaust. And the piping after the muffler on this van is original. From the manifold to the muffler is new, but same size.
Ford really chocked these things out. A good and much needed upgrade for any of these diesels still running around with original exhaust size is to upsize to 3.5" single, or 3" true duals.
Everything inbetween the frame rails is absolutely mint! no rust or anything! But the rockers on both sides, after the rear wheels is rotted and full of bondo.
Only 2 holes, witch are visible from inside, in both rear corners of inner fender, I can see the tire outside. It's about the size of my fist.
only thing it needs is a good interior cleaning....Everything inbetween the frame rails is absolutely mint! no rust or anything!
Good to see an '85 Econoline soldiering on. The motor alone is probably worth more. Would guess LKQ asks at the least $1000 for FORD 6.9 diesel, likely over $1500 for low mileage.
My trusty '85 Club Wagon was getting tired & its rust repairs were rotting thru again, when I sold it way back in '97. That's when I bought my '92 Club Wagon. Absolutely nothing on my rusting Chateau is mint these days, except some parts on long list needed to keep it going.
Looking for rust free '97 & up (ideally '04-'07) loaded Club Wagon that's been kindly used - Dead or Alive. But must have sliding door. Want an excellent body & interior. Willing to haul, do what it takes to make run & of course, give it a good cleaning.
Ya know you might be right----as I think of my daily drives hither and yon I see many more of the '92's and above-----never occurred to me until reading this.
around here there are plenty of these older rigs, but that might be because here in seattle, cars don't rust, they mold, so we find plenty of older rigs with good bodies but junk interiors
my van came with trashed seats but no rust. hit the junkyard for seats and now its all good
