altinator interchangeability

does anyone now if the alt. for a 7.3 is the same as a 6.0. i ask because i might be able to get one for free thats only 2 weeks old. the way it was described to be it sounds like the same alt. just clocked different.

i jumped a international today at work then when i tried to leave it almost didnt start then took the whole 20 min. drive home to get back to its pathetic 13.5 volt reading and thats with the lights and heater off

To me I wouldnt try and use a diffrent alternator for a diffrent model the Electronics are very expensive in the 6.0

But that said looks like there the same amperage 110 amp for your bAsic setup 6.0 & 7.3 and the connections to the wire harness looked the same but the connections have diffrent orintation ]location] and the mounts maybe a touch diffrent but the wiring does have diffrent location

and then some models have 2 alternators so a Lower unit maybe way diff depending

It didnt look close enough for me to try something like that

This is what I use and have had no problems with its a DC Power 190amp altternator they are a little spendy but I havent heard of any issues on FTE and there is a Few folks running them Oh I did get the optional wire upgrade to but I got it free so if you wanted to save $$$ you could have napa make you one for like 20.00 High Binder had one made you could ask him the details about it

https://www.dcpowerinc.com/vaf/produ...70&engine=1015

If you get a DC Power one you wont have to worrey about it
I also think its the case where you want the exact part for your ride

are the altinators you get from autopart stores just as crappy as the factory ones? i wouldnt want to spend the money and still only get 13-13.5 volts

I would suggest you run a 2nd load wire from the alt. to the passenger side battery. The OEM wire is only sized for the OEM 110 amp alt and not the AM 190 amp alt.
