ok a buddy of mine gave me a pyro off his 2000 powerstroke and i can't seem to find the one he gave me anywhere... im trying to find out how to hook up the boxes that are part of it.... i know where to drill the probe i just need to know which wires are which.... are the black the negative? are the red the positive? i need to know asap please
I guess I'm not understanding the (boxes) part of this. the only wires besides the probe (which are self explanatory) are for the light, if that is the case red would be hot and black ground, unless that company likes to really screw things up.
ok figured it out... the boxes were the power control boxes for the backlit led's the reason there are two boxes is there are two gauges... forgot he gave me the boost gauge too! even though i can't use it yet and another reason i was so confused is the gauge is designed for electrical and mechanical.... my buddy used it as a electrical and so i have it set that way now too.... ok now i have another question though after driving the old girl around she seems to drive around at between 5-6 hundred does this mean i have room to turn her up a little when i really get into her... and i am meaning wot mashing through all the gears until she finally winds out... i hit 1,100 and it was only for about 5 seconds... im wanting to turn her up to get a bit of black smoke when i am lugging her or when i really get into it.... (i know its wasting fuel but im only wanting it turned up high enough to get power when driving but smoke when i want to show off)
take her out to one of your larger hills around and go up it as fast as you would normally like to.
if she has a hard time staying under max EGT's and you find you need to slow down and back off.increase the fuel as much as you'd like.climb the hill again and see how much more you need to back off and slow down.continue on until your no longer happy with the speed the truck can safely climb the hill at and start reducing the fuel rate again until your happy with EGT's and the speed climbing the hill.
i found on my fresh ip,the fuel was up 1 flat too many.i saw some black smoke climbing hills.the pedal felt like mush.backing off the skinny a bit gained me power (i kid you not) i backed her down 1 flat,no more sign of smoke, and no more sign of reduced power.
testing under a good load is the way you'll be able to fine tune 'er.you'll learn real quick doing this,if your serious about optimizing her, more isn't always better.
How long can she safely be at 1,100? And just as a FYI because of ease of putting it in at the time (around 30 degrees out and trucks nose barely fits in the garage I was using I drilled the hole right next to exhaust port number 5 I plan on this summer relocating it right behind number 8 but for now that's where the probe is
