As a kid watching him on Dragnet, I thought he was old as dirt way back when. Heck, he was just getting started good. I liked the old MASH shows with McLean Stevenson and Wayne Rogers best and thought the show wouldn't make it long without them but I think ol' Colonel Potter breathed some new life into that show. RIP.
