Ring and Pinion

time for some new gears! after that zf 5 swap im bogged after every shift...the 4.10s and 38s dont seem to like each other.

first question "yukon" vs. "g2" any reviews or feedback?

second question 4.88s or 5.13s? i have 38s right now tallest ill go is 40s

local shop (randys ring and pinion) wants $600 for just the gears (front and rear) and 4wheelparts wants just over $400 (front and rear)

the front is a 88 dana 60 and the rear is a 97 10.25. i spend alot of time in the 35-55mph range, not too many stop lights in my little town lol

ive done gears before and ill get the other parts from a local parts store (know the owner get good deals )

i was leaning toward the 4.88s, what do you guys think?

this might be a good early Christmas gift....to myself!

thanks again!

I'm thinking I would go with 4.88, that would put at 25 in 5th and 32 in 4th at 75 mph, and you could cruise at 22 something at 65 mph. 5.13's would be close to 200 more rpm's and might suit you better if you go to 40's on tire height.

My 93 has 410s and 31s that is a little too high for me, I think the 488s are relatively close to the same rpms as that ??? So when I did get 40s then that would be the equivalent of a truck on 31s with a ??? 355? 373?

Yukon 5.13s might be hard to get for the front. It's a high-pinion D60, right?
I ordered those for mine, and each supplier I tried initially said they're available, but then came back and said they were back-ordered. Three different suppliers. I ended up getting Superiors...

the dana 60 is what ever came out of a stock ford f350 from 1988, then on the rear axle there are some that say long spline? how are those Superiors? looks like they want around 430$ for them

i see that the 513 would be tough to find with the yukon but i think im set on the 488s

The Superiors aren't installed yet, but they look good, and I didn't find any bad thing on the 'net about them. They're supposedly American made as well. Superior axle is in Nevada.
I got them for about $225 from 4x4 Parts, Accessories, Tires, Fender Flares, Rubicon Express, Poison Spyder Customs.

Thanks for the link! One nice thing about g2 is that if u buy the gears and instal kit you get a free diff cover! Those install kits are like 150-200 each.

From my brief web search I found nothing terrible from g2? The 4wheelparts is only 45 minutes away so I could eliminate shipping...

I don't do burnouts or wheel it hard so they won't see too much abuse. Using it more for helping my clutch out.

What's the warranty on the superiors? Do u know by any chance? Probably just 1 year?

oh yeah i see.you turned her right into a slug without gears and no more converter either..

4.88's is good.
since the tires are so heavy, and the speeds you listed driving at most often 35-55 plus may go 40" and now with a manual trans,id personally go with the 5.13's if possible,if not the 4.88's will still be decent enough you wont be burning up your clutch.5.13's so much more desirable for the setup, tires, and main driving speeds though imho.

"My 93 has 410s and 31s that is a little too high for me"
too low you mean? or? (revs too high?)
stock tires are 31.7".

1991 f250
38" w/ 4.10's right now = 3.42 gearing.
38" w/ 4.88's = 4.07 = back where it belongs.would be just like the 91 truck pretty much, but with less pep in her step due to large heavy tires.
40" w/4.88's = 3.86 starts to bring her up a bit.(hey close to where im at.this is a nice sweet spot for these speeds, though if anything, sometimes i wish i where lower to have a little more rpms at 45mph.1350 rpms is pretty low.plenty of pulling grunt but iv got the E40D.you lost your converter.
38" w/ 5.13 = 4.28 - this right here, would most likely "feel" pretty close to how the 91 truck sits.a little more gearing to compensate for those heavy sneakers.
40" w/ 5.13 = 4.07 - i wouldn't want any less gearing than this with a manual trans, heavy 40" tires and main speeds of 35-55mph.it would go ok though.still feel less snappy than the '91 truck but go pretty well around town no problem.

if you know 40" tires will be sitting under her some day, your main speeds will be 35-55 then try your best to score the 5.13's.

I don't remember offhand what the warranty is. When they said they could get Superiors to me, I just looked for any bad things about them, and when I only found good reviews, I went for them.
I don't know anything ablut G2, but I found lots of bad things about USA Gear and Precision...

Yea the 93 revs pretty high compared to what I'm used to lol I'll be dropping those down in the future.

The e4od handled these tires and gears pretty well, night and day difference when accelerating. No doubt about that

One nice thing about the combo I have right now, when I do it freeway I can cruise all day long at 75 and not even worry about rpms, might take a few minutes to get there now lol but I do hit freeway about once a week or every other week. It might be a while before I get the 40s so I'm just worried about the highway speeds with the 513s and 38s.

I do see what your saying though, 513s would probably be in my best interest

oh you do hit the open road weekly at 75mph.this changes things a bit.that's pretty occasional.well according to Phy,i see you may not have a choice anyway.
even if you did, that last comment changes things and makes 4.88's the better all round gear to select anyway.
it'll put you back and performance ahead (probably.but hard to say,by the looks of your E40D sale thread, you had a sweet setup!) of what you had w/ the E40D & 3.42 gearing setup for sure anyway and make your clutch very happy.you'll be pleased.

Thanks for this link joe! " FORD 10.25 DANA 60 4.88 RING PINION & INSTALL GEAR PKG | eBay ". Seems like a really good deal ?

Yea freeway occasionally as far as Spokane, 300 miles one way. Not very far but 2 pretty big hills on the way and I like to stay with the pack. But regularly like 30-60 minute freeway trips.

I think I might go with the link joe provided, I'll look into that a bit more

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP GUYS!
