Hello, My Name is Forrest. I most often go by my nickname "Kyo".
I have been a Ford Fan for years having owned a number of old fords trucks...
This is a Photo of me Working on my first Dentside.
I was 14 in that photo ,if I recall I was getting it ready to go on my first date .. I loved that truck long box std. cab straight 6 and 3 on the tree 2wd. I went everywhere in that thing but all happy things come to a end.. Sadly one night my dad took her out for a fishing trip and came home with a Dear in the drivers seat (no harm to him) but the Truck was beyond repair.. Life went on and I have owned a good number of 73-79 Ford's since then I am afraid I never took any photos was to busy enjoying the trucks to think about a snap shot... haha..
then for the last few years I have been truck-less I am now in the market again and think I found one.. But I would like some advice.
What do you guys think about the condition? and is it a good buy? are my main two questions.. This would be my first 4x4 so i really don't know what to look for..
Year:1977
Body: Std. Cab Shortbed ( took me a while to find this combo semi local)
Engine: 460 Was swapped in a few owners ago
Transmission: Automatic
Transfer Case: based off the owners Confirmation on shift pattern it is a NP203 ( would this be a deal breaker at this price?)
Paint: Was told it has been repainted a few owners back.. Did Black white two tone ever come on a "77"?
Condition: overall good, Was told had a bit of rust on the lower pass very rear box corner.( see pic) has good heater and Power steering and Breaks.. was told 4x4 works great no problems. and that the current seat was put in the wrong way just using factory holes no new holes were drilled ( I would put a bench back in any how) Tires have 50-60% life left.
Price: he was asking 3K but I talked him down to 2K and part trade for some misc. items I had laying around. Is this a fair price? I am setting a time to go and look at it in person ( he lives in a different city) what should I look out for? What should I ask about? overall just let me know your opinions..
looks pretty nice. 2,000 doesn't seem bad as long as theres no engine / drivability problems, the trim and interior look nice and its a shortbed 4x4. that rust on the rear will likely be worse than it appears if you strip it bare to repair it. I would also look at how neat the 460 swap was done. Are the motor mounts rigged up, are there notches cut out of the frame rails for the exhaust manifolds? Or does it look like someone took there time and did it right? Check local listings for what trucks like this go for in your area, trucks have different values in different parts of the country. And lastly If you like it and feel its a good value go for it. Good luck
From my area that'd be about right. Looks pretty good for the year. Look under the truck if you haven't already to see how the mounts and floorboards and such look. If they're all in check, i'd go for it. Already has a cool lookin exhaust setup on it with the way the pipes exit.
Thank you for the Comments and Advice every one, I will have more info and photos after I get to see it in person I want to take a look at it and then come home and think about it, So I will have time to ask / go over everything I may need to...

Welcome to FTE! That's not a bad looking truck; in my area I would offer $1500. I don't like the exhaust dumping before the rear tires like that. The first thing I would do is change out the seats for a factory bench and get rid of the console; I'm personally not a fan of later-model bucket seats in these trucks. If not for those two things ahead of me, I'd probably offer closer to $1700.
The price seems to be a fair one. The most important thing is if you like it. Frankly a couple hundred dollars one way or another should not be a deal breaker if you like the truck. Have the seller take you out on a trail to verify that the 4WD works and how the truck feels. If the truck breaks while he's driving it is his responsibility, if it breaks while you are driving there could be problems. I like the truck personally, good luck with it.
I am partial to shortbed 4x4s and I dont think I'm too far off when I say that it is one of the more desirable combos. If the engine swap was a good job, like the other posters said, then I think the price is not out of line at all. I dont like the newer seats myself but thats no deal breaker to me.
I'd say jump on it. You can sell the seats for enough to bring her down to the 1,500 that everyone is quoting. I can't find a SB dent anywhere near as nice as that one cosmetically. There WILL Be rust, just look underneath to see how much and how bad. take some clothes you don't mind getting dirty and crawl around underneath it for a while.
