Valvebody question

Doing and full trans build right now. Should I control the line pressure more with the tuning or drill the VB plate holes a little bigger so I don't have to drop the pan and VB again. If it's to big I can just lower the line pressure from my chip right?

You need to be careful lowering the pressure. Does it lower the pressure all time, or just during a shift? If you lower the pressure can you lower it below the factory setting? If so, you can cause one or more of the non-shifting clutches to slip during the shift, or if you lower non-shifting pressure you can cause all of them to slip. Once a clutch has slipped for more than 1-2 seconds you need to replace that clutch.

Thanks mark but my trans is still apart but wanted to know if I should just drill the VB plate bigger then what it should be at for a firmer shift and if it's to much can I lower the line pressure from my chip. I want to do it this way so I don't have to drop the pan again and drill it out and start all over. Does this make sense?

If you have a BTS valve body why don't you call Brian at BTS?

Yes, that makes sense. This is my answer to what you asked:

If you don't understand that, I recommend you do not lower line pressure.

It's impossible to get a hold of him. I tried to email him like 4 times called like 10 times and finally got ahold of someone and she said he call me back when he's done installing a trans.... That was 2 months ago. When I lived tuned with Jody he couldn't adjust my trans anymore and said I have to drill the holes bigger and to ask Brian what size the holes should be for the vb. Since getting a hold of Brian is next to nothing I'm just going to do the vb tugger kit.

If I were you I would just get a John Wood valve body and be done with it. It isn't worth the guessing and possible issues later on....

He said if it needs more adjustment in the valve body he can drop it and drill it bigger if he needs to firm up the shifts. But I don't want him to drop the pan and may be contaminate the trans oil. So thats why I was thinking if we make it a little bigger then it should be and if the shifts are to firm I can ask Jody to adjust the in the tuning and bring it down alittle.

I have used both and opted for the John Wood because of the same reasons. The way the BTS is put together creates a floor the tuner can't get around and if they go too far it can severly damage your trans. Of all of the John Wood valve bodies I have used in stock trans, as well as his built trans, I have never had to pull one for any adjustments. The tuner always had plenty of room to make it shift correctly without it being uncomfortable or bang.

I'm trying to decide whether to do a JW valve body or a Tugger kit for my next mod. How do they stack up?
