Alright guys we really need yalls help. We did a motor swap and we were pulling on the trans not realizing that the cover on the bottom of the tranny was preventing us from getting it off. We spun it upside down and finally got it off. When we pulled it off (FINALLY) I took the torque converter off to make sure I didnt mess anything up. When the converter came off the center shaft, the smallest one of the three, came out with it. It slid right back in, but now my trans isn't shifting. When I put it in drive or reverse (any gear in fact), it feels like the truck is strapped to a pole and it will not shift out of first. WHAT COULD BE WRONG?!?!?!
The inner shaft is O/D and is direct drive off the tc cover, that and the fact you can turn the motor over, it "runs" strongly suggests you had the converter fully seated into the trans when bolting it up. If not you'd been done right there.
That's all good or would seam be least for the moment, how about its "TV" cable?
Is it connected at both ends and is it adjusted right?
Or are you saying it will move but feels like its chained down, something holding it back and does not shift.
yes it does, even when I push the throttle all the way to the ground it goes but it take forever to get goin and feels like im chained to a pole and it shutters and then it will not shift, Ive even tried to manualy shift it and it wont
Did you double check your work connecting the cable?
That cable is very important to the function of that trans, its not for "passing gear", it determines working pressure based on throttle position.
If you don't have it right it will surely cause issues, possibly causing it to act just as you describe and might even damage the trans if set to tight/loose to an extreme and you keep hammering the throttle attempting to make it go.
Check the link I posted, make sure its adjusted right then let us know what happen.
With the transmission bolted tight to the block, before putting the nuts on the studs, you should be able to wiggle the converter stud easily in the flywheel moving it around some.
Did the motor you swapped in, did the vehicle it was in have a manual trans? If so was the pilot bearing removed from its main shaft before installing the auto trans?
Transmission was fried!!! Had it rebuilt, but now its shifting really hard and doesnt want to shift into od until 55-60mph. Is that how its supposed to be? On the tv cable there are two holes in the black plastic on the side. Is that where its supposed to be set at. Cuase the shop has it set to where the black thing is pulled all the way out.
