My truck is an 05 with 85k miles. Truck has been good to me(knock on wood). I usually start my truck by remote so I haven't noticed it till lately when I started the truck without the remote start. It only happens first thing in a.m. It cranks a second or so more than it normally does and then runs rough for 20 seconds or so. Haven't really noticed any excessive smoke. I checked FICM voltage a month ago and it was good. I have no dtc's or no other symptoms to report. Is there a way to check injectors other than IDS? My Insight won't do it.
IDS, AE, an a few more such programs are the only real ways to check injectors. I suspect your problem is some injector stiction. If you're already running 5w40 then I suggest you try Rev-x (not Hot shot secret) to see if that greatly improves your cold starts. Also, do you know what flash you're running?

Thanks NC, I do run 5w-40. Although, only in the winter. I have an older flash in my truck(haven't flashed it since 07). Where do you get Rev-x from?
Sounds like it may be a glow plug relay issue. Unplug your GP relay and see if the same thing happens. It could be cycling like it is suppose to but the contacts could be burnt and not heating the GPs. If it cycles properly, I would suspect you woud not get a GP DTC.
