I am in the process of replacing by original factory air in my '72 F100. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with either the Vintage Air or Classic Auto Air units. Mine is removed from the truck so I have no heat or defrost. Any opinions on either unit would be appreciated. I would like to order a unit in the next few weeks. Thanks for any input.

Nostalgic air parts sells and under dash unit that is similar to the original. It is a/c only though so it is a little cheaper. It was what I was going to go with before I got a Sears Evap unit from a coworker.

I just had a Classic Auto Air unit installed in my 72 earlier this year. My truck too was originally equipped with the "factory A/C/Heat" unit. I chose Classic because their unit can utilize the existing in-dash controls. Unit looks good, to me, and works fine - cool/heat and defrost.
Here's a couple photos.
I have a 72 ford truck and it did not come with a/c originally but I relly need it here in Tulsa in the summer... is there a cvheap way to add some kind of a/c unit without delving too deeply into my pocketbook?

Don't know what you consider "cheap". Most of the reliable units I looked at run in the $1000 +- range. The unit I bought was about $1300 plus install.
I'd suggest you talk to the folks at Classic Auto Air. They do have some cool only units I think that may suit your needs. Good luck - it DOES get "warm" in Tulsa!
Isn't there in existence some sort of air conditioning doohicky that I can just have in the cab and run off of the lighter plug till i can afford a real system? " " (hopeful eyebrows)

You've removed the system from the truck, so...how are you going to get the heater and defroster to ever work again, since it's combined with factory installed integral A/C?

Unit from Classic Auto Air takes care of this situation. Unit is heat/cool/defrost
Just curious,
Why would you remove the factory system, only to replace it with an aftermarket system? Were there major issues with it?
don't know about Joco or JimmerJo, but mine was a working unit. I replaced it with aftermarket because they are more efficient, look much better and free'd up knee space on the passenger side. I still use the original in-dash controls so some of the originality is there also.

One reason: All the parts are obsolete. Some parts, like the expansion valve and the A/C Heater control panel are impossible to find NOS
The levers within the A/C Heater control panel attach to the metal panel with nylon bushings. The bushings crack and/or fall apart, the levers flop around.
Ford did not offer the bushings by themselves, the whole enchilada had to be replaced.
1968/72 F100/350: Two different types of A/C were offered.
1) Factory installed integral A/C is combined with the heater, the A/C controls are in the same panel as the heater controls.
2) Dealer installed A/C is not combined with the heater, the A/C controls mount into the bezel.
Both factory and dealer installed A/C bezels are 'hang-on' units, bolt to the bottom of the dash.
