Hello, first post! I just bought a 95 F150 4.9L. It starts and runs fine when warm. When cold it cranks a long time and kind of sputters until the engine finally cranks (about 5 seconds). It then fires up and runs great... Any ideas??? Thanks!!!
I'm fighting a similar problem with my 87 F150 4.9L. Once the temperature drops below freezing in the morning, it won't fire until the temp rises above 32 degrees. It starts right up otherwise. I've tried dry gas, etc. Nothing helps. Doesn't matter which tank either. I'm thinking its a temperature sensor or a fuel pump/filter problem. Any other ideas out there?
nkh, chances are you got a bad fuel pump in that first tank. an old mechanics trick is to bang the tank on fuel injected cars and it gets the pump going for a while try this on the bad tank the next time you get a chance to cold start your truck.
