Wink OT: Webcams??

Anyone have/use a webcam to see family or friends that are out of state?
My Niece and her kids just moved 600 miles away and we were thinking that we would like to try a webcam so we could see them from time to time, I really know nothing about them as to whats good and bad-just surprised how cheap some of them are.
Here is one I found on Ebay:

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Again, I really don't know squat about them-just saw them use one on an old episode of Two & a Half men....(LOL)

I have used mine to talk with friends in Adelaide Au. using Skype. I bought a cheap camera and it is a little fuzzy, I am told. But the pix from Australia were great. I am running over 2GB of ram. Go for it. IL have a cheap Logitech camera from Radio Shack

What are we considering "cheap"-I think the one I listed is "cheap" but so are alot of others.
What specs do I need to look for/at to get a nice clear picture on both ends?
I'm going to buy 4 cameras-1 for each family unit involved.....
Thanks!

Just about any webcam will work, just make sure it is compatible with whatever operating system your computer is running on, i.e. Windows 7, XP, etc. Everyone over here in the sandbox uses them with Skype to keep up with family back home.

We use skype for keeping up with family also. It runs well on the iphone and maybe other phones with cameras. We use that around the house more than the computer cameras so we can keep the mobile baby in frame. Consider the app for anyone who has a compatible phone and save $ on a camera purchase.

I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work unless you are not running one of the listed operating systems, as quoted from the site:

Windows 98 / Me / 2000 / NT / XP / 7 /Vista 32bit

I agree. It's looks like an off-brand that would make me hesitant. I would go with one like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-960-0...3268032&sr=8-5

The one I use is very similar to that one, just not HD. But Logitech seems to be the most popular brand.

one thing to consider or think about, most laptops now have built in cameras and are pretty resonable. i travel with work so that was the route i went with so i could use skype to talk to my daughter when out of town. works great. i have tried tango on my sprint evo but wasnt happy with it. best of luck with your decision.
