Non conventional AIR CLEANER

Hello guys. I was at the j/y and was searching through air cleaners to put on my Qjet, which is on my 4.9, and was wondering what to do. I didn't really like the old metal type, and wanted to get one with a tube to a fresh air/cold air source. When I found this Cadillac air cleaner, with a '4.9' insignia, I had to have it. Now I just have to figure out how to fit it in the engine compartment/or if it will fit. Anyway, I really liked the look, so I think it is worth taking some time with.

Here are the pix:

If I decide it will work, I'll paint over the words around the perimeter of the emblem, and just go with the '4.9'. It was just too cool to pass up. I thought I'd paint the fins on my v.cover black to match.

Personally I prefer the look of the round K/N style filter. I would think it would flow more air. The caddy box looks like it would seriously restrict your airflow.

I like the overall layout of the caddy airbox, except the small-ish inlet. If you can make the airbox and engine mate up, but build a bigger inlet duct, I think it would look/work great.
The small-ish size of the fresh air inlet duct would likely be a bit restrictive for WOT romps into the upper RPM range, however, properly routed to the front of the rad support would make for a true "cold air intake" system, and we all know that equals a bit more power and MPG.

The box takes up so much room in the e.compartment. Haven't decided if I'll use it yet. I may go with the old style GM a.cleaners. I'm just tired of the noise from the present a.c.

If I remember right, the inlet on thaw really aren't that small. not huge, but compare it to a 5.0 inlet. If you could figure out a longer hose it just might work fairly well.

Just a thought, maybe someone makes a higher flow aftermarket air intake system for the Caddy that your parts came off of.
