The dome light will have two contacts to the battery - one to the positive side, one to the negative.
I really doubt that dome light is the issue as it's normally not turned on with the door closed (or with the fuse missing) but you can check for voltage at the connections, there shouldn't be any.
You can also disconnect the bulb + holder, totally remove it if you like. That will definitely eliminate it as a possible cause.

One last time; Yes wait 40 minutes and then check the light to see if it's still on. I didn't realize it took such a long time, but some of these guys work on these things everyday and know a lot more about it.
