You say you build them. That must mean that you're in Michigan?
What do you have to say about the Blown head gasket problems and the Torgue convertor problems and all the other misc. Problems I have heard about?
All I can say about that is, ask the supplier! We get engine's from Romeo, MI and Windsor, Ont. As far as the torque coverters, that would go to Sharonville, Ohio. We build 'em with what we get.
carymartin, you asked about our not being totally satisfied with the performance of our vehicles. As for myself I always want MORE. When I bought my 73 Pantera new in 72 I started trying performance mods the day after I got it. When we put a Hemi in my 68 Dart we ported and polished the heads, changed the cam and a few other goodies. If I got lucky and got a new Porsche turbo today I'd searching the heck out of the internet for hop-ups tonight. Some of us are diehard gearheads, some just want to extract all the performance latent in their vehicle and some are satisfied the way they come from the factory, with me,quick and fast is good, quicker and faster is better. I like my Expedition, but I want and can use a lot more horsepower. I traded in a 98 Expedition for my 03,I knew what I was getting,I'm not unhappy with the 03,but I'd be really happy with 400 RWHP.
^^^ Hey 2003Expy, I noted on your signature line "waiting for factory SC Marauder" you may as well stop waiting and go pick-up that Merc real soon as They have discontinued the Marauder due to slow sales.
Back the the topic at hand, Knowing Ford they will just use up the remaining 2v 5.4L V-8s in the Expy and then sometime in mid June of '04 start dropping it in when they run out of the older design . . . the Mighty F150 (sales king) rules over the lowly Expy just as much now as it did in '99
Torque and gearing are much more important than horsepower. All high horsepower really does is help sustain the power created by the engine's torque. Way too many people place way too much emphasis on HP.
My stock (chipped) 5.4L is plenty powerful for 99% of my driving. If you want a little better performance instantly add a superchip. It'll give you something like 25 HP and 40 ft.lbs. additional torque (see the online store for more info). Want even more low-end performance without breaking the bank, change out the rear gears to 4.10's. If you tow for a living or then I'd recommend a Cummins Diesel Dodge with a few mods.
petrol, thanks for the heads up,but the Marauder will be here through at least the 2004model year.
Don't believe everything you read at Motor Trend. I'm a member at www.mercurymarauder.net , the best website for help and info on Marauders. We've posted the 2004 dealer order sheets on the site.In addition to the black, and silver Marauders, dark toreador red will be available on the 2004's,blue will be dropped. I know there's still no word on a supercharged version, but I had heard last year from 2 good sources there were plans in the works for one in a about 2 years, but now due to Mercury's total lack of advertising of the car sales have been slow. It's almost like Mercury built this car just to abandon it. Dealers don't know squat about them, neither do most service or parts departments. Calls to Mercury Customer Service to obtain the MM specific info packs that were supposed to come with the car (some cars were missing them) bring replies of there were none for the Marauder, only the Grand Marq. ,even when told Helm has them and given a Helm part# they still deny it. From the top of the corporation on down to salesmen and techs at the dealers nobody seems to know much about these cars, either by plan or mis-management.
It's a shame 'cause these cars are pretty good right out of the showroom, with some mods like a DR chip,4:10 gears,Iridium plugs,a new, safe driveshaft ,and maybe a Stallion torque convertor they really wake-up. If you've seen the Supercharged MM in Car&Driver,or a couple of car shows on cable, that's one of our guys who owns it right here around Chicago. Take one for a test drive and see what you think, once they have a2 or 3 thousand miles on them they loosen up and performance improves even more. And I am,STILL waiting for a factory supercharged Marauder.
The Mauraders aren't that quick, I stomped one with my 1991 Lexus LS400 with 245,000 miles on the engine and trans. I expected more from that thing. So far as my Expy goes, it has decent pull for a truck of its size. The worse thing about it is how much the torque converter stays unlocked allowing the tranny to slip and not put all the power to the ground. Once it does finally lock up it pulls much better. I have a Gibson dual exhaust on the way, hopefully that will increase torque output. Need a chip for the tranny though.
Thanks for the heads up on the MM! I agree with you that it would make a fine car . . . especially with the installation of the SuperCharged 4.6L from the SVT Cobra!
