Last year I put a 3 inch body lift in my buddys 91 ranger. This allowed 30" tires to fit with plenty of room. He later put 32" tires on, But then he put springs and add a leaves in (both from trail master) and has 35" SSR's on it now. But that involved some minor fender trimming. Performance accesories makes the cheapest body lift I can find. Should be about $120.
How Hard was this to install br yourlsef? do you think it would be better to rim the fenders with no liflt or go witha 3" lift, also do i have to get a suspension upgrade or can i judt put on the lift? thanx again,
Nick
If you just want 30's, just go with the body lift. If you have any mechanical ability at all, you can do it. You need a good set of tools, and if possible some torches. A week before you do the lift start to spray the body bolts with pb blast or thrust. Do that every day until you lift. Also I have done 3 ranger body lifts. 2 91's, and 1 90. All three needed new front body mount hardware. The ford dealer will have know what you need. Its not really hard except for rusty bolts. The instructions are o.k. You will need at least one friend to help. Any more questions, ;et me know.
On the 83 4x4 ranger I owned i went with 2" coil srings and add a leaf in the rear and I was able to squeeze 31"s under it.
total cost was <$200 and it was fairly easy (no special equipment needed but a floor lift woulda been nice)
I currently have a 89 that i plan to lift this summer and i may repeat the above or go with a all around 3' lift but time and money will be my limiting factors.
if you would do the math, a 235x75 is about a 30in tire by 9 in wide, and this will fit on my ranger just fine. plenty of room and they never rub. i have bfg all-terrain 235 75 r15. if you want to go bigger you may have to invest in some sort of body lift, but if you just want 30" tires, put 'em on, theyll fit
I had a 90, 2.9, 5 speed, with a 3 inch body lift and the same coils and add a leaves and had 33's, with plenty of room for 35's. My buddy has a 91, 4.0, auto, with the same lift, the biggest tire he could fit without trimming or rubbing, was 32's. Weird. Hes got 35's now but we took the sawzall to it.
I also have the 2.9 l v-6... i am considering putting some bigger tires on my truck... i just want to know how well the engine performs with big tires on... does it have the power to spin them?

Feel free to correct me but here it goes. First we convert the mm to inches by dividing 235 by 25.4, = 9.25". The sidewall is 75% of the tread width so we take 9.25 x 0.75 = 6.93. The rims are 15" and you have two sidewalls which is 6.93 x 2 = 13.86 + 15 = 28.88".
