I'm helping a friend who is having problems cranking his truck in the mornings. I changed the glow plugs and relay but still getting this code. Ive seen write ups about how to check it but I'm lost! I have a volt meter handy to check it out if anyone has any ideas. It has a chip on it and I've even pulled the chip and tried it with it pulled and it still throws the code!
Nice , only thing I've found is on my truck and the truck I'm working on is the key power wire and the glow plug control wire were swapped. Should it of still operated like this? Could this have caused any more serious problems. I swapped the wires and now I'm not getting the code any more but the truck is up to temp. Would that matter?
If you unplug the eot sensor that should command the gpr to come on for a maximum of two minutes with the key on. I think the only way to set a gp code is with a glow plug control module or shunt. The shunt was before the gpcm for CA trucks and excursions. (IIRC)
Now I'm sure something is messed up. The key power wire going to the gpr is only showing 6.5-7.5 volts and it s supposed to be 12volts. Also when you turn the key on a couple of relays just tic repediatley. At this point the truck will not start. If I apply 12 volts to the key power wire on the gpr the truck will start. Did I short something? What? It's not completely shorted as it still gets 6 volts.
