Tranny questions

Alright. My 2002 Ex w/158000 miles, check sig. Been thinking about some upgrades likes stage ones. Question is the tranny. It shifts perfect no problems even towing my 9k camper. I want to upgrade the vb and get a external filter like dieselsite.

Question is should I ink up on a new BTS now or wait for problems. Stages ones now or wait til tranny gets redone? Of course I'm on a budget haha, how is everyone else doing it? Will stage 1's smoke too much without a turbo upgrade? This is for towing my camper..... mostly. I do enjoy making a kill now and again.

Thanks

My trans didn't last that long but if you have know problems go for the stage1's. Your turbo should work but upgrading it is always better. More air lower EGT's.

Doesn't BTS and John Wood give credit for a valve body if you end up having to purchase one of their transmissions? It seems like I have heard that before.

I wouldn't go with the full trans until its necesary, but I think a valve body upgrade would be a good idea prior to going beyond much more than a chip. If they do in fact have a credit program towards a full rebuild you've got nothing to lose.

If its in the budget I would get the trans done now. It's easier to drive to AR. than get towed there...
They never break at a convienient time or place. Mine gave me no warning when It went.

I guess my reasoning for not fixing what isn't broken is because while I'm sure that right now you think you will never get rid of the truck, things may change a year from now. And to the casual truck buyer, ANY rebuilt trans is a red flag, regardless of who built it, and you won't get your investment back out in the resale.

Now, I am a big fan of fixing something the right way, hence my John Wood trans. It seems to me that most trans failures I read about in our trucks don't leave the truck stranded on the side of the road. Usually it's something that can at least get you to a safe location, if not all the way home.

My 92 f150 lost all forward gears once and I put it in reverse for 5 miles to get home. My neck was sore from looking behind me.

I think i'll try the bts valve body and a external tranny filter and see how long she goes.

Same happened to me with my second trans, just a big boom and no forward gears. But I only had to back up 2 miles to get home.
My first trans shifted into third and came apart....I had no gears.
When my third started to slip, I drove straight to BTS.
