Ok i did a bad thing. I didnt use my RV for sometime. and it started to run ruff last year. couple of months ago i looked at it. looks like only 4-5 of the cinders are firing in this v10. i checked the others and i got no compression. i think the valves are stuck. Why do i think this....
Well when it happened. i thought it could be water in the gas or something else. So i replace filter and drained the gas tank. Still didnt help. i cleaned the injectors. they looked ok. only got 37K miles on this thing. Now with i did was put the gas in my ride on lawn mower one day. and guess what. same black smoke. and a week later 2 valves rusted open!
Now i think i can just removed the valve covers and free the valves and this would be ok.
My issues is i cant get the valve covers off because it so deep in the Van there is no room!.
is there a way to take the covers off? can the Eng be dropped couple of inch's so this can be done.
I doubt it is a valve issue since it is an Overhead cam engine...I don't know what configuration it is like shim under bucket or what have you . I would be scanning it for codes and you will probably get a ignition coil code. Since you havbe direct ignition ( one coil per cylinder) I would replace the ones that are defective and thats it .....Ford modular V10 - 6.8L/415 - FORD - SummitRacing.com
Well since the only OHC engines I have are my kawasaki bikes and they are DOHC and are of the shim under bucket design which means they are directly actuated by the cam via the bucket..As far as the modular V10 I have no idea....I assumed spring pressure would keep valves closed ....just trying to help
