NEED HELP!!!

ok i have a 2004 v8 6.0 diesel. just recently its been having a problem and i have no idea whats wrong with it. when your driving or at a complete stop and you either put your foot to the floor or just take off normal it has nothing. then as you stay in it the turbo spools up around 3000 RPM then its its fine till the next time you slow down and try and take off again. i have no idea what would cause it to do this. Anyone have any ideas??? Thanks

That is normal. Ford programmed the turbo vanes to do that. Until the turbo builds boost, mashing the throttle will simply blow black smoke

Once you are rolling the PCM lets more fuel in and you get power

Try rolling into the throttle. Give it a little and progressively do more. Once you are rolling a bit, then peg the throttle.

Sounds like the veins in the turbo aren't working as they should. First make sure the electrical connection on the turbo (2 wires that control the veins) is plugged in and making a good connection. If the connection is good and you can't see any other obvious problem, I would unplug the connection on the turbo and go for a short drive. If it drives the same the turbo is your problem for sure. Either the turbo itself is broken or you have an electrical problem somewhere.

I don't know much, but not making boost till 3000 rpm is wrong. Turbo should have spooled up long before that.

Check the turbo first and let us know what you find out.

My guess is the veins in the turbo are sticking, or at minimum not fully opening/closing. Could be as simple as taking the turbo off and cleaning it up. It may needed replaced though, depends if it's damaged or just dirty.

Good luck. Let us know what you find out.

Sounds like the turbo to me also. I would scan for codes before starting, just to make sure nothing else is going on. It is possible to have codes stored and no check engine light.
Here is a great thread with pics and good info on turbo cleaning/repair:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...0-vgturbo.html

Not to bad of a job if you're handy with a wrench. Hardest part is getting everything lined up when putting the turbo back on the engine.

Good luck!

You won't see the codes on the dash. The will have to be pulled with a code scanner. AutoZone, O'Rileys or whoever is near you will usually check for free. It's best to verify no codes are set before ordering parts or pulling the turbo, just in case something else is going on.

X2 here as well get the codes read

Start thinking about getting a scangauge then you could check some things out
could be an EBP or MAP sensor isssue to check those sensores and hose/tube

Unplugging the turbo and running the truck will create a code where there might not have been one before leading to a misdiagnosis. My advice would be to unhook the batteries for 10 minutes to clear out any codes present and drive the truck again. If you have an electrical problem with the turbo it will recreate the code very quickly. Also make sure that the scanner you use is capable of scanning everything on a 6.0. Most of the autoparts stores will do this for free.
