'77 F150, 302 with headers and dual glass packs. Have two 2100 carbs. One is marked s 1.08 (287cfm) and the other is a 1.21 (351cfm) Which carb would be better for this engine ? power/mileage
hear is a "I CAN TUNE GOOD DRIVING INTO A LARGE CARBURETOR BUT CANNOT MAKE A SMALL CARB FLOW MORE AIR' Barry Rabotnick.... ive had lots of 2bl fords and every one that i put a small 4bbl on i got more power and if i drove it with a light foot got at least 2more mpg just a thought.
I have an Eddelbrock dual plane intake available. Would a Motorcraft 4100 work ok ? All the 600cfm Eddy's seem a little large. 500's are just hard to find at a good price.
I would run a edely 600 because even though it is rated for 600 cfm you won't be using all that unless your at WOT. Power wise I would go with a holly its more performance oriented from what I've learned on our race cars. But Holly's do have a drawback compared to the edely your going to get better mileage with the edelbrock. Overall for your application I think you would be happier with an edelbrock performer 600 cfm. You can find factory remanufactured ones at Jegs for 229. Not a bad deal.
An Autolite 4100 with a 1.12 stamp is 600 cfm. IIRC, a 1.08 stamping is around 480 cfm. Both we good for a Dent but I'd opt for the 1.12. I really like the 4100s - they're simple to rebuild and tune.
Alternatively, I like the Edelbrock 1406 (600 cfm) for its driveability out of the box plus yer looking for mileage. Holleys are too fussy for me.
If yer gonna stick with a 2100, I'd opt for the bigger one at 351 cfm. These rigs typically aren't high revvers but it's nice to know there's extra air flow on reserve in light of the untapped volumetric efficiency.
