Back up lights
Back up lights
Just wondering if anyone has put a set of back up lights on their trucks and if so what did you's use. Was looking into the lights that are from White Night. They fit around the trailer hitch and look good.

I am going to get a set of these lights after Christmas.
Vision X XIL-SFLUSHS1101
I seen 2 lights mounted on the back bumper of another vehicle and they were flush with the bumper, the guy told me he had to drill into the bumper to get them mounted though.

I used two lights by KC and mounted them to the two inner torx screws under the bumper.

I too had KC's like Kper05 After almost a year they rotted out and stopped working. Kper05 take your housing off and check inside. Seems water gets in. SO I took them off and installed a set of Recon projector reverse lights. Not quite as much light as the KC's but smaller, less noticiable, seemed to be sealed better then the KC's were and they instructions were great. Even gave instructions on how to wire to reverse and to upfitter. I couldnt be happier. I'll try to post pics tommorrow.

I'll post some pics of mine, I'm looking for the Hella Part # or catalogue info right now, in the mean time you might look at this from the ford truck builders, just the note at the bottom of the bulletin about adding additional back up lights. I have mine tied into the trailer wiring, which I believe is how the white knights work as well, I had one of those a while back, but went with separate lights now on my new truck.

That last picture is just to show the light that they throw when they're on..

Here's a really good price on the lights I used, I think I paid over 50 bucks a piece for them when I bought 'em

They are a flood style and super bright, They have to hang verticle though for the flood pattern to be right, i had them mounted in a horizontal manner and realized the light pattern was all F'd up that way.

Just received this email from White Night lights, too bad since it looks good.
Hi Greg,
You are correct, our fixed Mount light unit Part # 4199 will not fit your larger 2-1/2” hitch. With the 2 inch reducer sleeve you can use our 2” Insert Mount light unit Part # 4198. It has a 2” stainless steel tube that slides into the hitch and is secured with a hitch pin. You will have to remove the light whenever towing.
Thanks,
Rob

I just emailed Rob before I read your last post. Maybe they'll come up with an option for the 2.5 hitch if enough folks contact them on it.
I may go with the reducer sleeve and just remove them when I'm towing. Since my trailer is 16 foot with ramps in front, the lights might be more of a hindrance (reflection) than a help when I'm towing.

I bought these at Northern Tool and Equipment. They come with just the lights, no wiring or a switch. I had wiring and stuff, so that wasn't a big deal. Just wired them to upfitter #4 and they work great. 55w halogen.

Oh, and they were about $11.00
