Cold Start Romping

I didnt start my truck for 2 days, then today I went out and fired it up, it was romping like a big block, I shut it off popped the hood checked the plugs on the heads all was tight. I fired it back up and again romping, I let it runfor a few seconds and I could hear it going away after about 10 seconds she idled and ran fine no problems. The fuel is good I run additive, oil is less than 200 miles old, fuel filter less than 200 miles also, any ideas? It was about 34 degrees outside which is nothing Ive fired it up in negative temps and never had a problem with out it being plugged in. Then to top it off I dropped the tailgate too and it about fell off!!! the hinge in the driver side is about gone!!! But the upside is I finally got my radio back after a few months of not having an antenna lol I finally put one on it, it never bothered me until latley. I like to hear my engine and tires ;p

Could be glow plug system needs work or oil weight. Sometimes they just get cold soaked, its common in our 7.3's. Wouldn't hurt to check glow plugs or relay and replace if you never have. Sometimes oils just react different to, I run, now anyway Rotella 15-40 and haven't had the problem. But when I ran delo 15-40 if it sat at 15 degree nights for a week at a time I would sometimes get this to, Not always though. If it keeps happening I do some work.

I ran rotella 15-40 this time around I normally run amsoil. The place I get it done at was all out and I blew a hpop line so I couldn't get the truck there anyways. I've never had a problem with the truck before if it keeps up I'll go threw it and replace the gp and relay. Will this hurt anything romping like that or do I just let her throw a fit for a few and keep it running?

It will be fine. Just let it warm up before driving. It would probably stop if you go back to amsoil to. On the other hand I run rotella 15-40 but I'm not in the cold weather all the time either.

Could be your GPs or your GPR, need to check them. I see you have a DP Tuner just out of curiosity what tune are you starting your truck in? I have found if I start my truck in any tune but stock when the temp is below say 45* it will romp and blow some white smoke.

After I turn the key on, I switch the chip to the hottest setting and start the truck. Once it starts I switch it to the daily setting. On the hottest setting the truck doesn't romp, on the daily is romps bad.

I too had had a bad case of the romps. I tried everything with glow plugs, relay, fuel additive, long glow plug cycles etc. Nothing helped at all. As soon as I switched to synthetic oil, it has not romped once. Its been 2.5 winters now. It was night and day.
Apparently the injectors are run by pressurized oil and don't work well when the oil is thick.

As soon as its time for an oil change Ill switch back to amsoil. When I woke up for work this morning it was 28 degrees out, the truck didnt romp at all, when I left work it was 32 out no romp... It was colder today than it was yesterday, doesnt seem right to me. Maybe she was just mad because I didnt drive her for 2 days lol

Switching to 5w-40 synthetic oil from 15w-40 cured my romps. All the way down to sub-zero temps.
