I just go a couple things fixed on my 2000 f250 7.3L such as my Fuel bowl O-rings replaced (thanks to guzzlesO-rings) and the needle knose bearing greased and new O-rings put in (thanks to the directions from guzzlesO-rings). The truck ran fine for a couple of days then the other morning I went to go out and start it to warm up and it turned over but wouldn't start and white smoke came out the exhaust. It was about 24 degrees that morning. I pluged it in for about half an hour and it started up. It started up fine rest of the day (warmed up to be about 40). Last night I didnt plug it in and again same thing (30 degrees). I plugged it in for 10 minutes and started right up. Ran fine all day. I thought maybe a fuse, relay, glow plugs, and fuel bowl heater. I have off tomorrow and want to take a look at it. Any help to put me in the right direction will help! This web site has been a great help to me and my Dad. Thanks once agian!!!
Check your glow plug relay.. see my gallery for a picture... Right after turning your key to on but not start the engine, check and see if you have about 11 volts on the two large lugs..
How many miles on your oil ?
I have replaced the glow plug relay before. Ill defidently will check it. Maybe a 1000 on the oil change with Rottela T Synthetic and SFR oil Additive.

What is SFR oil additive?
These engines don't play well with additives in the crankcase.
Most additives tend to thicken up the oil.
The injectors are powered by high pressure engine oil and they bind up when cold if additives are used.
The oil additive is a synthetic lubricant made for Diesels. I have ran it in my truck for 5 or 6 years. The truck ran smoother as soon as I put it in the oil.
OK, then, I guess what I would start with is making sure the glow plug relay is working.
There's always the fuel bowl heater shorting out and blowing the fuse that powers the ECU.
Just because the GPR is working doesn't mean that system is fine.
Ohm out your Glow plugs too. Should be about .5
It sounds to me that you need to run through and just replace the glow plugs themselves. I had replaced the GPR and checked all wiring and the truck wouldn't start in cold weather until I replaced the GPs. Now it fires up easily even in sub 0 temps.
I believe my GPR is bad. I think some of my GP's dont work. My Dads 02 7.3l starts way beter than mine in the cold. He can let his sit for days outside and not plugged in and it will start right up. My truck will usualy start up but will run a little rough until high idle kicks in. Thanks for your help everybody.

Please do not add anything to your oil at all. Rotella Syn is more than sufficient. Out fuel injectors are fired by high pressure oil via the HPOP if you start adding stuff to the oil you change the characteristics of the oil and it could cause problems. If it is thick like STP then you can mess up your injectors with it.

Maybe you can swap GPR's with your dad's truck to troubleshoot the system. It's only about 5 minutes of time to swap out.
