Let me start by saying I have an 85 F150 with the original TFI/feedback setup. When I got the truck back from my brother in law about last January it kept stalling on him, never got it to do it for me. I replaced the coil/wires/plugs and TFI module along with a few other thing. That got rid of any codes and it has ran great until today. I was taking off from a stop and making a left when it backfired and died. I tried to restart it and it would just die again in a few seconds, and sometimes backfire again. Finally I got out and pulled the air cleaner to check the carb and checked to make sure I hadn't left the dizzy loose but they both looked fine. Got back in and it fired right up and ran great again. Could the TFI be bad again already? It couldn't have over 1000-1500 miles on it sense I swapped it out. I know they tend to die from the heat but this soon?
Depends. Cheap modules can fail quite easy, as can even a genuine motorcraft, if they are not properly coated with the thermal paste. Cheap ones are known for being problematic either way.
Also, if the pickup assembly inside the dist is failing, that can kill the TFI module rather quickly.
Well it wasn't a cheap one it was from NAPA, but then again it wasn't a Motorcraft either. I did use the thermal paste but didn't replace the pickup assemble. Guess it's time to make a run to Ford and get the good parts.
As a side question, has anyone ever tried to remotely mount the TFI on a heat sink? I know on later models Ford did it, at least I've seen pictures of it.

Is there a sponsor on here for Ford parts? Reason I ask is just called the local Ford parts place here and they want $190 for the TFI module. Found them at local parts houses for $40 (US made) up to $90. Hard to spend an extra $100 just to see if it does it again in 1500 miles.
