Wierd trams issue...input please
Well I just went to take off from a stop sign and it was like somebody put it into neutral. Stopped cause I thought I broke a u-joint. I couldn't find anything bro. Put the transmission into reverse went fine. Put it into drive and nothing. Put it into first gear and it takes off and drives fine. So I manually shifted my way home. Anybody have any idea what is causing this issue? Fluid level looks great. Is it dangerous to drive the truck like this? Thank you in advance.

A one way clutch failed. You won't hurt anything by driving it like it is. A rebuild is required to fix this.

Glad to hear this won't hurt anything. Any idea of cause? Any idea of cost to rebuild this?

BTS or JW. I will go out pretty soon. Mine ran good for a while but then stopped all together. Good luck with yours. Also a OEM HD would be good to.

That was my next question. What is a good aftermarket so this doesn't happen again?

Also can the sprag clutch be just replaced without pulling the whole trans or is it going to have to be totally disassembled?

Both Brian's Truck Shop and John Wood make good aftermarket transmissions from what I hear.

You need to pull the trans and pull it just about all the way apart to get to this one way clutch.

Ok so do BTS and JW make their own one way clutch or do they buy an aftermarket and just bolt it in?

One way clutches are fairly complicated to make. I don't know for sure, but I'll bet they buy theirs.
