think I know what it is, but not sure. Started on Thanksgiving, I'll be driving along and she will surge a bit and then the rpms slowly drop to 0. Almost like she's out of gas, if I shut her down and let it sit for a minute, she cranks a few times and fires up. I get anywhere from 50 ft to 10 miles down the road and it happens again. Seems to be happening more frequently every day. I'm thinking that when I redid the fuel lines I left the pickup too long. I cut a v in it but maybe not so good? Any other ideas?
Does it happen when you let off the fuel, like when you're pulling up to a stop light? If so, I would suggest dumping a bottle of "diesel kleen" in the silver jug in your fuel. These old pumps were designed to be lubricated from the sulfur in the diesel which is basically non existent anymore. I alternate between the diesel kleen and red line. If that's your problem, will fix itself in 30 to 60 minutes of run time. This would be your cheapest trouble shoot.
could be lots of things really.pin hole in a fuel line.look around the clips on the frame.those hold road salt, sand etc and will rust out there, most likely before the rest of the line will.could be a tired lift pump,a pin hole in the pickup tubes,an aged or poor quality rebuilt ip.
new pickup in sparkly clean front tank, new fuel lines from tank to new fsv and from end of hard line to new e-pump from e pump to new filter, new return lines, new injectors and glo plugs, 2nd new IP from pensacola in a month. sometimes it feels like throttle is sticking, surged up to 3k rpm once today at stop sign and then died in about 20 ft. that seems to be the pattern. stutters, surges, dies, sits, starts goes 100 ft repeat. Took me 30 minutes to go 1.5 miles on my way home today. WTF I'm getting frustrated going to hook up back tank and see if that changes things.
mmm, that sounds reasonable, the 2nd time it happened, I got out and bled a bunch of air out the schrader on the filter, I'd check that right now, but it decided to rain good today for the 1st time in about a month. At least the gators are happy.
Star, by the way, where is Faibanks, don't recall ever hearing of that place b4
I know what you mean, years ago my ex moved to Juneau while I was living in Key West, cost me less money to fly to Madrid than it did to visit my daughter in Ak.
Airtex e-pump mounted just under fuel filter, and no pre-filter installed. got another issue this am, checked all fuel lines, tightened clamps couldn't find anything obvious, started her up and idle speed was 2200 rpm. shut her down checked TPS and idle and WOT set at 1.04 and 3.59 on meter so wtf w/2200rpm?

Reason: correction, so I look smarter than I am!
Is your new pump pumping enough fuel? Pressure and volume at speeds? If you have a loose connection in the lines before the pump it might not leak fuel but could allow air to get sucked in when the pump is pulling hard. I know its a new filter but maybe you got some trash in it and clogged the filter?
I am lost here on what you are checking with a meter, but it sounds like you have a internal ip problem. Is your mechanical pump still hooked up, what pump pressure is your e-pump putting out. Most pumps that I have seen mounted where yours is just used to prime the system, then switched. If you have to much pressure to the IP it will mess with the timing, and possibly cause premature failure, it is also possible that you got another bad ip too.
