oil pan question

Hey guys i have a 92 f150 4x4 that I bought for what i think is a decent deal. It appears it needs some more work then when i first purchased it. Good news the body is in 99 percent great condition and the frame looks like it has some surface rust. Anyway i found a few drops of oil under the truck and I climbed under it and looked around and found that the PO had fiberglassed or something to a hole in the oil pan.

My question is what are the recomendations to do while i have it apart? Im thinking im going to have to pull the motor to do the job so my thoughts are oil pan, oil pump, oil pump screen, rear main seal? Am i missing anything?

That would be a very good start, I think I would pull a couple rod and main caps to look at the condition of the bearings while I had it opened up..

Ok. I have never really done anything big like this and will have a freind thats a mechanic probbly help me but, would it be best to just replace them while im at it? I would pull it and rebuild it as best as i can due to the millage and all but im just trying to do what needs to be done and get me by. Ive done top end stuff on my last ranger but nothing like this so id rather do preventive steps then to have to go back and re do everything.

You "could" just replace them if you want.. It would depend on the mileage of the engine and the quality of maintenance over they years.. But they may or not be needed, only an inspection will tell.. Beside you need to pull some of them to see if they are standard or not before you order new ones..

Well now the mileage changes things somewhat..

There may be wear to the journals and may require some work to bring them to a standard size.. A competent machine shop should be able to check it and recommend what action is needed..

Without seeing the crank and measuring it I can't say for sure what should be done..
