just replaced my torque converter in my 1994 f250 7.3 idi e4od the other converter had broken pieces inside when I started the truck I have a buzzing rattle noise from the converter area when you put the truck in rev or d , 2 , 1 the noise momentarily goes away then comes back any suggestions
You might be screwed. My tc went out a couple weeks ago and have a post on here about it with pictures. The problem is that when the tc loses pieces, you're pumping metal debris through every moving part in your tranny and those tiny particles will destroy the rest of your tranny. Even though the pans have a magnet in them, it can't catch all the particles. Hope it's not the case for you. Just been there and done that and it's a chunk of money.
I'm saying if you had broken pieces inside your old converter you might have some unwanted troubles on their way. If it's a cracked flex plate, obviously no worries about your tranny.
what did you use for a replacement converter? new or used? if used, approx how many miles on it? did you verify it was working fine from the truck it came from or someones word that it was fine?
when you swapped converters, did you inspect the fluid, followed by a flush? including the cooler(s) and perhaps install a filter?
was the reason for replacing the converter in the first place, due to the noise? can you describe it? did you inspect the flex plate with the trans out? how did,and how does the converter(s) seem to be working? a good positive lockup or? is the truck 2 or 4wd? if 4wd,how does the fluid in the transfer look?
the noise sounds almost the same as the old converter but my tranny shifts now, the old converter had broken parts inside not many small piece when i drained the old converter I installed a new converter checked all clearances checked flex plate no crack visible . I'm think now it might be the pump put new fluid in and blew out trans coolers no metal chucks in pan....any thoughts ......4x4 truck trans case fluid is good
I agree with Crew it. I had a guy rebuild my trans mission in Aug of 2010. Later I began to realize that it didn't have the power it needed, even at idle. It came apart and I put a second trans in 10 mo later.
