Latest Progress

Well today was a pretty successful day...got the bed off the F1, gas tank is removed, exhaust system is removed, and the frame is ready to be patched up in a couple spots then sanded down and painted. Overall, its solid. The rear shackle on the drivers side needs to be replaced, theres two spots on the top part of the frame that need to patched up, and two of the cross member supports need to be repaired also.

What do you guys recommend using to paint the frame? Ive heard of a couple different paints just dont know which one would be best...

I have heard of a few different paints. I used some Nason chassis black paint on my frame. I was pleased with the price, and quailty. I know another guy that used Rustolium appliance black paint and LOVED it. Then there is Por-15, which i have heard to be the best, but it is like $150 a gallon.

I hope this helps and good luck with the project!

Thanks. Ive heard the POR-15 is good stuff, but it is expensive too haha. One of my buddies is redoing his mid-late 90's chevy pickup and went to kbs-coating.com for there frame paint. He said the stuffs pretty nice too so ill just do some shopping around and see what i can find out. Also heard that NAPA's Frame and Chassis paint is good too...

If you have cleaned up all the surfaces really good, then you could just put two coats of epoxy primer on everything. The epoxy primer is an excellent sealer and/or rust protector when you put two coats on. Here is the brand that I am using. I have to tell you that I did not use it on all of my frame though. I used Chassis Saver and Rustoleum gloss black paint on some of it. I only did it earlier this year, so only time will tell which one is the better product. After I had used the Chassis Saver on the rear of the frame I read on the paint forum I am on; SPI User Forums
that the epoxy primer is much better. It was stated by many of the auto-body professionals that are on the forum also. Like I said, I have both on my truck, and only time will tell which is the better product.

Concerning chassis paint & rust, the following is a really good read:

Zero Rust is nothing more than a Rustoleum-type paint

I think im either gonna go with the Rust Seal Kit from KBS or the Rust Bullet Automotive Formula. My dads gonna talk to one of his friends about sandblasting the frame for me, and im hoping to get the cab and motor and trans pulled this weekend with a buddy of mine.
Frame Paint Kit - Frame Coater Kit - Stop Chassis Rust with KBS Coatings

Automotive Formula - Rust Bullet LLC

Also, i got the pics uploaded to my F100 album if any of you guys wanna take a look. Theyll be more by the end of the weekend im sure...

If you have the frame sandblasted, then I would use 2 coats of this product, and it dries to a matte finish.

Personally, I would ask a good quality body-shop what product or type of product that they would use.
