4:10s or 4:56s with 37" tires
Ok, I know it usually takes a day or so for a majority of people to see new threads on here, but I only have 4 hours till two eBay auctions end. One is for 4:10 gears and one is for 4:56 gears. The 4:10s are going real cheap so far and the others aren't very pricey either. I know with the 4:56 gears I'll have to change carriers. Does anyone think the 4:10s will turn my 37" militarys halfway decent?? If not, the low price of the 4:56s will offset the cost of new carriers a bit. The ad for the 4:56s says it has a thick rear gear that bolts up to the 3:50-4:10 carrier. The guy says he sent them back to Randys R&P because they said they don't exist, after seeing them Randys confirmed it was a thick gear but wouldn't trade the guy out. He claims it was too tight on the big carrier but worked fine on the smaller one. I just don't know which way to go, obviously the 4:56s would be better, but only if they work.

its a 3.92 and numerically lower carrier is a class 3 and a 3.93 and numerically higher carrier is class 4
in other words theirs no 3.50-4.10 carrier the carriers is 3.50 to 3.92 and 3.93 to 5.13 or what ever the lowest gear they make now for a dana 44
but if its a thick gear set then it will fit the 3.50-3.92 carrier but if the dudes telling you it fits a 3.50 to 4.10 carrier i have a feeling he has no clue what hes talking about....
in other news if the trucks just a street queen 4.10s will be fine if your gonna be in deep thick mud then the 4.56's would be better
the big question is what engine and what the use is gonna be of the truck...?

Crap, my bad, I forgot to mention I have a 78 F250 snow fighter with 60s front and rear and a million mile 351m. 60s go up to 4:10s on my stock carriers. My ultimate goal is going to rockies, but I'm just trying to take the sluggishness out that came with going from 31s to 37s, just so I can play in the snow this winter and hit some trails. I've tried bogging with these tires and it was a waste of fuel. Hopefully sooner than later I'll be building a bored and stroked 460.

i assumed 9" and 44 lol
well then with the 60's i ran 351m in my 77 (halfton) with 3.50s and 38x12.50 TSL's it didnt like it and it was a 1 gear wonder it would hold 4500rpm until it really started bogging, now i know that the military tires dont have anywhere near the bite TSL's do so id assume that 4.11's would do you fine aslong as your not planning on hitting 3 feet of deep nastey thick mud and plan on turning it to the moon...

You don't need to get new carriers even if they dont make a thick gear. Run a spacer. The difference in offset is 3/16". Randys r@p gave me this #. Trans dapt makes a d60 spacer. Some say bad idea I say put some lok tite on your ring gear bolts and impact the crap outta them.
After going to 5:13's in my d70 rear from 4:10's I needed a thick gear. They dont make a thick 5:13 or a spacer. Out came the torch, circle cutter, and some 3/16 plate cut out the ring spacer then put a clear plastic sheet over the ring gear and put center dots on each hole. Transferred the sheet over the now belt sanded clean spacer and center punch, transferred the dots for where i then punched the holes. Basically I didn't want to sell my d70 Detroit for dirt cheap to some poor, low balling redneck to offset the cost of another $900 locker..

If its a toy I'd definitely go lower than 4.10. 4.56 or even 4.88s won't be too low with 37s.
Anyone who tells you thick gears for a hp d60 don't exist is an idiot. I've got them in my truck.
