Need help quick

no responses on my issue thread so heres a new one to try and get a quick resonse.

97' 250 powerstroke E40D

I need to inspect my Flexplate to see if its cracked. I am ready to slide back the trans a couple inches to look.

Do i have to drain the trans to pull the cooler lines? i dont want to pull it and have my trans start draining oils everywhere. I know some will come out the lines.

Also there is no drain plug, how the hell do i get the fluid out if i have too without making a mess. if i remember right it holds 18qrts...

That is what I'd do, slide it back get a good look at it.

Should be able move it back just far enough to work between motor and trans to replace flex plate if you do find its cracked, I still lean toward you will.

I did one on a earlier model that way but not with the big E4OD in one of these.

You will loose some fluid when you disconnect the lines but shouldn't be to much. Whats it the cooler if it drains back, probably will. Have a couple short sections of 3/8 rubber line plugged at one end (short bolt and clamp) ready to put on the lines once disconnected. Or a catch pan on the ready if that doesn't work out / don't have anything handy cap them with.

Some will but the bulk of the fluid is in the pan and TC when the fluid isn't being actively pumped. And of course the lines and cooler will be full of fluid, that be the major source you'll encounter actual drainage from.

^^^^^^ What he says.
Make sure that you unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate and push the converter towards the trans before you slide the trans back. Once the trans is back do not let the converter slide forward.
