Not new to Fords, but this will be my first Expedition. Looking at a 2000 EB w/142000 mi. for $5800. What questions do I need to ask the previous owner, and what are known issues, problems, recalls, etc that I should be aware of?
Also, assuming this has been well mantained, and with continued care, can I expect to get 250,000+ miles out of an Expedition? Thanks in advance for your replies.
Regards, Rick
Ask when the following were done...
If and when the plugs were changed
Trans flush and filter
Coolant flush
Oil changes
Any receipts that are available
Cruise control harness recall NHTSA07V336000.
The last couple of cars I bought, I got Carfax to check for reported issues. It is well worth the $50. I also took my code reader and scanned the vehicle. Good Luck!
My expy is aproaching 200,000. It hasnt been trouble free, but it has been well worth it. I love mine. I would take lv2race's advice and also add,
If it has air suspension, have there been any problems? the systems have been known for trouble especially on higher millage vehicles (such as mine) as for me i Will be converting my air susp. to coilovers soon. The kit bolts in and only costs $300 to $500 depending on were you look. air suspension repairs can be costly even for a do it yourselfer. The price sounds about right for the mileage but condition and regular up keep are key!!!!!!
Ask if the GEM module has been replaced AND the front windshield removed and re-sealed. My 2000 4.6 has 150,000 miles on it and this is the most satisfying vehicle I've ever owned. I'd buy one again if I had to.
Also ask if the transmission's torque converter has been flushed.
I'll add to ask about the front suspension. These trucks are hard on things like ball joints and sway bar end links. If possible get a jack in there, get the front tires off the ground, and do a shake down on the front end suspension parts.
I love my Expy too. I only have 107K but it still drives great. I'm hoping for at least 250K out of it.
