what sounds like a fuel pump problem but you want to change the cam instead?
Mine did this before with the same symptoms and it was the fuel pump on the rail.....I had fuel in the bowl also...........I don't know what the cam sensor symptoms are though.....never had mine go out
How can I check the fuel pump on a 7.3 I have fuel in the filter bowl. What tools should I take in with me
Well hey, at least we now know which engine you have and don't have to guess! Troubleshooting a diesel is different than troubleshooting a gasser, and as well, since it could have been a 6.0 or a 7.3, troubleshooting is different between those two engines too.

Well, with the dearth of information, I'd have to say my first guess is a CPS too.
