I installed my new cam today and after I put the thrust plate on I noticed that there is about 1/8 inch of play when you move the cam front to back in the block. Is there maybe a spacer that is missing or did I incorrectly install the cam? Any help would be appreiciated. P.S This is my first time installing a cam so bear with me.
check the pin in the end of the cam. make sure it's the right one, there are two...if you have a two piece fuel pump thingy you need the short pin. If it's a one piece thingy you need the long pin......can't spell that fuel pump thingy thing...lol
is the play in the cam with just the thrustplate installed??? the timing gear needs to be installed to check end play..it keeps the cam from moving back in the block
Yes, just the thrustplate is installed. when the timing set is installed it should keep the cam from moving back? should there be any movement when the timing set is installed?

Thanks for the help so far
I don't recall the exact measerment, but it should be like between .004-.008..that amount of clearence is for oiling between the spocket-thrustplate/cam-thrustplate
