2000 Nav, brakes done
This last trip for the Navigator came up with less than 2mm left on front pads and less than 3mm on the back. They also recommended a brake flush and a fuel filter.
Their prices, $180 an axle for brakes, (rotors had plenty left to be turned) $100 for the brake flush, and $75 for a fuel filter. $600 with tax.
My price, $130 for Wagner ceramic pads, fuel filter, and a quart of Dot4. $60 for all 4 rotors turned. just over $200. The back brakes could have waited, but since the back are so easy, and I had to bleed and flush anyway, I did all 4 corners.
I spent an extra $60 on a 3 pound dead blow hammer just in case I needed it for the infamous front rotors, and a set of 3 ton jack stands. My old jack stands are 30 years old, and have long lost the tags for their rating. I used them under the back, along with the jack.
Turned out to go very smooth. Rotors came right off. I did find the drivers side caliper had a small tear in the dust boot, but no leaking brake fluid, so added $9 for a rebuild kit. My wife is a well trained brake bleeding assistant, and we spent about 30 minutes, "pump it up, hold it", until clean fluid came out all 4 corners.
I spent less than half of what Ford wanted, and still have the hammer and jack stands for the next job.
preach it! Can't get her to hang out w/ me while doing repairs not requiring her expertise tho lol.
