Thank u David & Mister. I didn't really think orientation mattered but wondered why they recommended it that way.

I don't think it does. It is somewhat of a pissing match in the electrical field as far as which way a receptacle is oriented. In all honesty it doesn't really matter.

That's pretty much what I figured. I will say that Marinco has a drain hole at the bottom (between the hot/neutral posts) so for no other reason than that I mounted it the way they said.

Thats probably why then because of the drain hole.

Why not use one plug and have a switch to select heater, charger or both?

Hi CMK,

I have a Marinco plug already in for my heater cord, and I wanted to add power for my battery tender.
My first idea was to use a switch like you mentioned, but electrical is not my strong point.

Would you know how to do this? Would you use weatherproof switches mounted beside the outlet on the bumper?
Would I have to search for a product like that in an electrical catalogue?
If you know electrical could you recommend something that would accomplish this?

Or would I need to do something behind the bumper that I'd have to reach to?

Any ideas would be appreciated on how to do this. Thanks.

That is a great idea Chris! A switch something like on the boats for 1, 2, or both just 120 VAC?

Yup. You could use a couple of RIB relays so you are not switching the block heater current itself.

The only reason i would think to keep them sepeate is my battery tender is plugged in whenever the truck is parked. I put the block heater on a timer in the winter so i would have to choose with the switch which one i would want. with 2 outlets i can keep the battery tender plugged in and powered all the time and still have the block heater come on 2-3 hrs before i drive away.

Just a thought.

Just one other idea...Our firetrucks have a similar type of plug with one BIG difference. When you switch on the ignition, the plug automatically pops out...I've never priced them, but have kept us from ripping out many outlets. If anyone's interested, I'll find out the brand etc...

Check out this link:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ml#post9701337

Go to post #6 and from there there is a link to another older thread I posted in the Excursion forum.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...ck-heater.html

The only difference is that my plug is mounted on the driver's side with a short piece of extension cord. This makes it easier for me to see it plugged in and I loop the extension cord over my mirror so I will not drive off with it still plugged in. Also when parked in my garage, I can not get to the passenger side very easily.

This is a worthwhile mod and very easiy to do... guess my older instructions and parts list (at the time) was not good enough to make it into the tech folder (ha, ha).
